New Dates are October 5 – 7, 2018
Actual Date TBA by Wednesday, October 3 at 11:00 am

Due to inclement weather expected on the initial weekend of the Highland Star Party (September 6 – 8), the event has been rescheduled for the New Moon Weekend of October 5 – 7, 2018 with the date and time of the official go/no call being Wednesday, October 3rd at 11:00 am.

All other events scheduled in Highland County for the weekend of September 6 – 8 will proceed as scheduled including Dr. Mark Whittle’s presentation on The Big Band at 2:00 pm this Saturday at the Highland County Public Library in Monterey.

Highland County will host astronomers from the Charlottesville Astronomical Society for a Star Party. The final decision as to which one of these three possible nights is selected (based on the weather forecast) will be made the Thursday prior. A number of astronomers and some powerful telescopes will set up atop Jack Mountain on the clearest night within the three-day viewing window. The public is invited and will have a chance to view nebulas, galaxies, planets, and other astronomical wonders. There is no charge for this event, which celebrates Highland County’s unique dark sky resource.
