May 4 - 5, 2012

May 4: Education day open to school classes and homeschoolers. Students will engage in a variety of activities that meet Virginia SOLs for grades 3,4,5, and 11; and West Virginia CSOs for grades 3,5,8,10 and 12. No admission fee. Preregistration required. For more information or to schedule a group tour, email the Highland Historical Society.  

May 5: Event open to the general public. Reenactors portray military, civilian, and medical aspects of the Civil War as it affected the tiny village of McDowell, Virginia in 1862. Event includes a reenactment of the Battle of McDowell, first Confederate victory of Stonewall Jackson’s Valley Campaign; horse drawn wagon tours, guest speakers, music, and period crafts.

Cost:   $5.00 per person
